Donate Stock to Help Explore and Protect Our Planet

You can support critical research, exploration, and education programs around the globe and enjoy tax benefits when you make a gift of stock to the National Geographic Society.

By making a gift of appreciated securities, you can avoid capital gains tax. The stock contributed must have been held by you for more than 12 months for you to receive the greatest tax savings.
 


Please Let Us Know

Please let us know that you are making a gift of stock and provide the following information so we can track the transfer and account for it properly. We also need this information to provide you with a receipt for your taxes:

  • Brokerage house
  • Name of security (stock name)
  • Name of donor (if possible)
  • Broker name and phone number
  • Number of shares
  • Date of transfer
