Meet the 2011 Grosvenor Teacher Fellows

    Amy Blonn

    Amy is an educator at the Houston Independent School District’s Outdoor Education Center in Trinity, Texas. Each week, approximately 250 new fifth grade students travel 100 miles north of Houston to the East Texas Piney Woods to learn along the shores of Lake Livingston with Amy and a team of educators.

    Ani Smith

    Ani is a 4th grade teacher at Sheridan School in Elgin, Illinois. She has 19 years of teaching experience and has been a member of the Illinois State Geographic Alliance for 18 years. Ani facilitates an after-school Geography Club, and is a former National Geographic Bee state coordinator.

    Kevin Witte

    Kevin is a teacher at Kearney High School, in Kearney, Nebraska. He teaches world geography, international wealth & poverty, and Advanced Placement World History. He has been a member of the Geographic Educators of Nebraska for 12 years.

    Margaret Chernosky

    Margaret is a teacher at Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine. She teaches GIS in geography and Advanced Placement Human Geography to 10th and 12th grade students. She has been a member of the Maine State Geographic Alliance for 10 years.

    Ann Christianson

    Ann is a 7th grade world geography teacher at John Muir Middle School in Wausau, Wisconsin. As the current Chair of the Social Studies Department and an active member of the Wisconsin Geographic Alliance for the last 19 years, Ann has had many opportunities to implement programs, lessons, and units that support geographic learning among young people.

    Chad Pelton

    Chad is a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at John D. Runkle School in Brookline, Massachusetts, on the outskirts of Boston. As a teacher who supports geographic learning, Chad developed curriculum to enhance the educational importance of the annual 7th grade overnight geology field trip to Western Massachusetts and upstate New York.
