About this Event

This is the second event in the Explorer Classroom Ocean Expedition Series! Follow along using our Program Guide and have your learners complete short hands-on “missions” designed to ignite their curiosity and deepen their connection to their local ocean or freshwater ecosystems.

Dive into Palau’s waters alongside the National Geographic Pristine Seas team and local scientists as they deploy cutting edge technology–from deepsea camera systems to photomosaics–to better understand the world beneath the waves.

Explorer Classroom is an interactive session that connects learners with National Geographic Explorers for short lessons and Q&A. After the featured Explorer’s lesson, your students will have a chance to have their questions answered in real time! This event is recommended for student groups in grades 9-12, but all are welcome to participate.

The event will take place on February 22nd @ 8pm ET (February 23rd @ 8am ICT). A recording of the event will be available to watch on-demand on our YouTube channel if your students cannot attend live.

The National Geographic Pristine Seas program is the Society’s flagship ocean conservation initiative to protect vital places in the ocean in collaboration with local communities, Indigenous peoples, and governments. Pristine Seas just launched The Global Expedition to spend the next five years exploring the tropical Pacific aboard the M/V Argo, a customized research vessel and media center, and the next destination is Palau!
