Volunteers

Every year, the National Geographic Society needs volunteers to help with the exciting live events we host at National Geographic’s headquarters in Washington D.C.  Our volunteers come from all walks of life and age groups.  Many of them have been with us for a long time—some over 10 years!  We are looking for people who share our passion for exploration, storytelling, science, and education to illuminate the wonder of the world, define critical challenges and catalyze action to protect our planet.

The Program

Volunteers at National Geographic assist in event operations for public programming like: National Geographic Live events, VR events, Family Day events, Explorer’s Festival, Film Festivals, talks, films, seminars, and other special events.

Some duties include (but are not limited to):

Scanning Tickets; Ushering; Access Control; Wayfinding; Mic-Running; VR Headset deployment/retrieval; Greeting; and more.

One of the great benefits, among many others, of volunteering with us is often being able to attend events at no charge.  You also get to say you are part of the elite corps of National Geographic Volunteers.

Who can volunteer?

Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Length of Volunteering

Volunteering at National Geographic correlates to the Spring and Fall National Geographic Event Seasons, but it is not limited to it—special events happen year round!
