Imogen Napper is a marine scientist. She first began noticing the effects of plastic contamination while surfing and developed a passion to be part of the solution. Imogen now researches the sources of plastic into the marine environment. Her research, in which she found up to 3 million plastic beads in one facial scrub bottle, helped influence the ban of microbeads in cosmetics internationally. She also produced the first research piece that specifically analyzed different fabric types to understand how many plastic fibers come off of clothes when they are washed. She found that a single wash of acrylic clothing could produce up to 700,000 fibers of plastic!
