Explorer Fernando Trujillo tracks pink river dolphins along the Amazon to assess mercury contamination in their diet to better understand the health of the river. He is part of the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition, a multi-year scientific and storytelling exploration of the Amazon River basin. Join Fernando and learn how he partners with local communities to protect both the riverbanks and dolphin habitats.
Explorer Classroom is an interactive session that connects learners with National Geographic Explorers for short lessons and Q&A. After the featured Explorer’s lesson, your students will have a chance to have their questions answered in real time! This event is in Spanish and is recommended to bilingual students, heritage speakers, and students acquiring Spanish as a second language, but all are welcome, and will take place on July 19th @ 11:30 am Eastern; register for the time that works best for your class. A recording of the event will be available to watch on-demand on our YouTube channel if your students cannot attend live.
Teachers, we also have resources in Spanish! Use the interactive guides Explorer Mindset in Action and Get to Know the Explorer with your students to take them on a learning journey and spark their curiosity.
#ExplorerClassroom is for everyone! All events are free.
There are two ways to participate in the virtual event, as a featured class on screen or watching live on YouTube. If space is available, you may request to be a featured class during the registration process.
