On December 21, 1937, the Walt Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in Hollywood, California. As the first full-length animated film in English and in color, the film was the most expensive movie made at the time. Walt Disney borrowed much of the $1.5 million the film cost despite warnings from many of his colleagues. The film received a standing ovation at its first showing and was an instant success when released to the public the following year.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has become a classic piece of American pop culture, and Walt Disney one of the most famous filmmakers in the world. Disney’s achievement helped pave the way for future innovations in filmmaking, animation, and entertainment.
