At the National Geographic Society, we believe in the power of science, exploration, education—and storytelling—to change the world. Our Sciencetelling™ Bootcamp helps our explorers and grant recipients learn how to communicate their work in ways that build global geographic knowledge and empower us all to illuminate and protect the wonder of our word.
At Bootcamp, participants learn from world-class National Geographic magazine photographers, editors, and digital video producers how to showcase their work through captivating photos, compelling video, and written stories from the field.

Sciencetelling Bootcamp Online Course Suite
The Sciencetelling Bootcamp suite of courses for Fulbrighters draws on National Geographic's deep experience in cross-platform storytelling to help explorers and scientists learn how to communicate their critical work in ways that build global geographic knowledge and empower us all to generate solutions for a healthier future.
Sciencetelling Bootcamp
Photography
This introductory course covers the basics of digital photography and editing. It is designed for people who have little to no experience with photography, but it has tips and tricks that are valuable to photographers at any ability level. There is also a resources section where you can dive deeper into the concepts presented in each video and find tips specific to phone cameras. After completing this course, participants will have the skills to effectively tell stories through photography. The course consists of 30 one-minute videos and two assignments that can be completed at participants’ own pace. It takes approximately six to eight hours to complete the program from start to finish.
Sciencetelling Bootcamp
Public Speaking
This introductory course covers all basics of creating and giving great public talks. After completing this course participants will have the skills to develop and practice a two- to three-minute talk to share with a live audience. The course consists of 30 one-minute videos and three assignments that can be completed at participants’ own pace. It takes approximately six to eight hours to complete the program from start to finish.

Video Production
This introductory course covers all stages of video production including pre-production, production, and post production. After completing this course participants will have the skills to conceptualize, shoot and edit a one-minute video. The course consists of 30 one-minute videos and three assignments that you can be completed at participants’ own pace. It takes approximately eight to ten hours to complete the program from start to finish.

Social Media
This introductory course covers the basics of creating a social media presence. After completing this course participants will have the skills to tell stories through social media to connect with new audiences. The course consists of 30 one-minute videos and three assignments that can be completed at your participants’ pace. It takes approximately four to six hours to complete the program from start to finish.

Sciencetelling Bootcamp
Writing for Impact
This introductory course covers the basics of writing for impact online. After completing this course you will have the skills to write about your work to connect with audiences online. The course consists of 30 one-minute videos and three assignments which you can complete at your own pace. It takes participants approximately 8-10 hours to complete the program from start to finish.
