Half Dome looms over Yosemite National Park, California. The popular idea that Half Dome is what's left of a complete dome-shaped rock formation is false. In fact, the formation never had a dome shape. The sides of Half Dome are nearly equally steep. Only the rounded top of the northwestern side gives Half Dome the illusion of being a half-dome.
