The small, pressurized crew cabin of the Triestse is literally overshadowed by the float tanks above in this photo, taken before the bathyscaphe's historic dive. The cabin had to be engineered to withstand pressure greater than 1,130 kilograms per square centimeter (16,000 pounds per square inch).
