A century later, Kowloon Bay is one of the most densely populated areas on the planet, and home to one of the busiest shipping ports. Engineers have deepened the port through massive dredging projects, and acres of land have been reclaimed for housing and commercial business. Until 1998, Hong Kong's airport was located on land reclaimed from Kowloon Bay.
