The National Geographic Mission: Animal Rescue series of books charges readers to save our planet's most endangered and threatened animals, including wolves, lions, polar bears, and elephants. The initiative aims to inspire kids to learn as much as possible about endangered animals and to take action to rescue them.

This educator guide provides English language arts activity ideas for use with students in Grades 4-8. The activity ideas focus on the books Mission: Wolf Rescue and Mission: Lion Rescue and connect to Common Core State Standards for English language arts, including reading informational text and writing. You can find a list of the relevant standards and corresponding activities at the beginning of the guide and next to each activity's title.

Visit the National Geographic store to purchase books from the Mission: Animal Rescue series, for ages 10 and up. To extend the learning, your students can continue to participate by visiting the Mission: Animal Rescue website. This site encourages youth to take action to rescue these endangered and threatened animals.
