The Engineering Exploration Challenge (NGX Challenge) is a hands-on engineering challenge that asks students to solve real-world engineering problems faced by National Geographic Explorers in the field. Students may pick between one of three challenges: create an animal-proof camera, raise a camera 10 feet into the air and get it back down safely, and develop a way to generate 1 watt of electricity without the aide of a battery or power outlet.

Use this educator guide to engage students in Grades 1-12 with the NGX Challenge in a variety of settings both in and out of the classroom. The guide includes information about the role of the facilitator, tips and tricks for facilitating the NGX Challenge, as well as suggested materials list for each specific challenge.
