The Engineering Exploration Challenge (NGX Challenge) is a hands-on engineering challenge that asks students to solve real-world engineering problems faced by National Geographic Explorers in the field. Students may pick between one of three challenges: create a way to study animals as they migrate, collect data to tell the story of a special place, and develop a way to explore an extreme environment that you cannot or should not go.

Use this educator guide to engage students in Grades 1-12 with the NGX Challenge in a variety of settings both in and out of the classroom. The guide includes information about the role of the facilitator, tips and tricks for facilitating the NGX Challenge, as well as suggested materials lists for each challenge.
