Requests for Proposals

Explorer Community Collaboration

The National Geographic Society seeks to support interdisciplinary collaboration within our Explorer Community. To achieve this, we are inviting members of our Explorer Community to apply for collaboration funding of up to $25,000 to support an innovative project that is conducted in partnership with other National Geographic Explorers.

This funding opportunity is designed to foster collaboration and networking outside of the community’s annual gatherings and community platforms by having Explorers work together to  develop creative, original projects that will contribute to a more sustainable future.

In alignment with the Society’s strategic vision, the interdisciplinary collaboration we are looking to support will develop creative solutions that build community and use the power of science, exploration, education and storytelling to illuminate the wonder of the world, define critical challenges and catalyze action to protect our planet.

Please note that July 10, 2019, is the final deadline to submit a proposal for this collaborative funding opportunity.

Applicants should develop a proposal that:

  1. Is tied to and advances one of our institutional imperatives:

  • Protect the Natural World: Secure landscapes in high-priority regions and develop enduring conservation models.
  • Live Smarter on Our Planet: Reduce human pressure on the natural world.
  • Empower the Next Generation of Planetary Stewards: Inspire, inform and
  • activate a community of leaders to drive toward a planet in balance.
  1. Is solution-oriented.

In addition to developing a creative and innovative idea, the end product must include clear and tangible solutions that address the problem at hand.

  1. Integrates, engages and/or supports local public communities.

In the spirit of collaboration, projects should incorporate relevant local community stakeholders in the project design, exchange of information or ideas, contributions to project goals and/or the scalability and sustainability of the project’s outcomes.
