Bjork Teams Up With Thom Yorke For "Náttúra" SingleNew single follows up this summer's groundbreaking Náttúra concert and exclusive Nat Geo webcast.10/20/08 Not all the news coming out of Iceland is of the bleak, economic meltdown variety. Today Icelandic diva Bjork teamed up with Radiohead's Thom Yorke to release the new "Náttúra" single in support of a greener Iceland. "It is now more important than ever before to emphasize a respect for nature," Bjork says. "I believe that profits, technological advances and working together with nature can all go hand in hand. None need to be sacrificed at the expense of the others." Written and produced by Bjork and released on her own One Little Indian label, "Náttúra" boasts a darkly ambient soundscape, reminsicent of Bjork's pre-Volta work, and features musical backing by longtime collaborators Matthew Herbert on synth/bass, Mark Bell on electronic beats and Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale. But what makes "Náttúra" stand out is that 100% of the single's sales will go to benefit the Náttúra environmental campaign, which aims at "collating and providing sustainable and eco-friendly options suitable for Iceland, and generating alternative ways to utilize its natural resources," according to a press release. The single follows close on the heels of the Náttúra concert and webcast, which saw Bjork team up with musical compatriots Sigur Rós for a free concert held in June at the Laugavegur Botanical Garden in Reykjavik. Nat Geo Music hosted the event's exclusive live webcast which can be viewed here. The Náttúra single is available online, and there's an additional donation page for the Náttúra Campaign, which will enable users to to submit their ideas on the website for sustainable green workplaces for Icelanders. |
