National Geographic Explorer is a classroom magazine for grades two through six. Its
pages invite students to explore the world and all that is in it. This website provides an extension
to the magazine and allows students to explore in a fun, safe, online environment.
What Students Get
Each issue contains 24 full-color pages. Three nonfiction features probe curriculum-related topics in
science and social studies. Articles also provide glossaries with kid-friendly definitions of key
terms. Our website offers games and activities that support and extend topics that appear in the magazine.
What Teachers Get
The eight-page, black-and-white Teacher's Guide provides a vocabulary exercise, fast facts, comprehension and critical thinking questions, extension activities, and a ready-to-copy work sheet for each feature article. The Issue at a Glance grid identifies skills and curriculum
areas related to each article. Teachers can find Web links and download the Teacher's
Guide on this website.
When They Get It
There are seven issues of the magazine during each school year: September, October, November-December,
January-February, March, April, and May. We devised this schedule after extensive consultation with
teachers.
How Much It Costs
Orders for 200 or more students cost $2.50 per pupil. Magazines come in sets of 20, and each set includes a Teacher's Guide.
Orders for 10 or more students cost $3.95 per student and include a Teacher's Guide for every 20 magazines.
Use of the website is absolutely FREE whether you have a subscription or not.
